Pacquiao vs Rios: Freddie Roach says Manny vows revenge for insults, fight won't go four rounds
Freddie Roach says that Manny Pacquiao will be out to defend his (Roach's) honor on Saturday, and will knock out Brandon Rios in four rounds or less.
Freddie Roach insists that Manny Pacquiao is out for revenge for his insulted trainer on Saturday night against Brandon Rios. Roach was involved in a scuffle with Rios and former Pacquiao strength and conditioning Alex Ariza, who gave Roach a "front kick" (KARATE!!!) and also mocked his Parkinson's disease.
"(Pacquiao) said to me, 'Are those the guys that made fun of you?' and I said yes, and he said, 'That's all I need to know,' and he walked away," Roach told The Associated Press on Thursday.
"He told me he's going to take care of this guy quickly."
I do enjoy that Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO) is a movie bully for hire who stands up to other bullies, like Linderman in My Bodyguard. Also, Rios didn't actually do anything during the fight, so is Pacquiao going to "take care of" Alex Ariza? Or does Rios have to sacrifice himself in the name of a guy he just started working with? That seems a bit harsh.
Roach says that the more he watches tape of Rios, the less impressed he is, and that he now doesn't think the fight will go four rounds:
"Initially I didn't think the fight would go six rounds, and after the way he's worked out, I don't think it will go four. ... Rios is a tough guy, and tough guys don't win fights; good boxers win fights. The more I watch him on tape, the worse he gets."
This part you can file under "typical Freddie Roach pre-fight chatter," along with, "This is the best training camp we've ever had, Manny is in the best shape of his life and he's hungry for the knockout."
As for Ariza's devastating martial arts attack, Roach laughed it off:
"What (Ariza) doesn't realize is that Manny hits me 10 times harder every day. It was like a girl kicking me."
YOU HEAR THAT? LIKE A GIRL!!! A GIRL!!!!!!!!
